Tips For Recovery After Getting Dental Crowns

Posted on

If you are scheduled to have dental crowns put on your teeth, you might be interested in some tips for an easy recovery process at home. Knowing what to expect and what you can do about it will make things a lot easier for you. Simply take a few moments to review the following tips so that you can be as prepared as possible.

Chew On The Other Side

While you can resume eating and drinking once the numbness wears off, you might to avoid biting down on the tooth or teeth that received the dental crowns. You might also want to avoid drinking super cold or hot drinks for a few days. This will allow your teeth to heal without causing yourself too much pain or issues with sensitivity in the meantime.

Have Ice Packs Ready

It is important to make sure that you have some ice packs on hand in the freezer. If you do not own an ice packs and do not want to purchase any, then you can use a frozen bag of veggies. Just make sure that you have something handy as you will want to use some ice cold to keep any swelling down. When you first get home, you may want to apply your ice pack  to the affected side of your mouth for about thirty minutes. Then, every hour after that for the first day, you will want to use the ice pack for about ten minutes at a time.

Keep Up With Your Oral Hygiene

You will want to keep up with your regular oral hygiene routine even if your mouth is a little sore. This includes brushing, flossing, and using mouth wash. This also includes brushing and flossing around the teeth that just received the dental crowns. If you are still sore or sensitive, you can brush lightly, but just make sure that you are not simply avoiding those teeth, as that could led to further dental problems that you will have to address, such as cavities. As each day passes, your pain or sensitivity level should decrease and you will be able to brush ad floss with the normal amount of force.

With those few tips in mind, it is easy to see that the dental crown recovery process is something that you will be able to easily get through. Just make sure that you follow all of those tips, and any additional tips that you dentist (like those at A Q Denture Services) gives you, and you will be feeling like your old self in no time at all.
